Very few marriages captivated the 90’s public’s imagination, quite like that of Amanda Holden and Les Dennis. Their wedding, which happened in 1995, made headlines not only for its fairy-tale start but also for its eventual crash and burn. Now, decades later, Amanda has resurfaced with brutal words about her ex-husband, shedding light on a revelation that had been buried for years.

It all began in 1993, when a whirlwind romance sparked between 22-year-old Amanda and 40-year-old Les Dennis during a production of The Sound Of Music. Two years later, the couple tied the knot. However, the fairy tale soon turned sour when Amanda’s affair with Shakespeare co-star Neil Morrissey came to light in 2000, an event she later dismissed as ‘just about sex.’

Amanda opens up on brutal split

Fast forward to today, and Amanda’s recent revelation has reignited interest in their infamous split. “I terribly want children, but I didn’t want to have them with Les,” she confessed. “That’s a horribly brutal thing to say, but when you do, you know you have to move on.”

The pair’s wedding in 1995 attracted a host of celebrities.

The fallout from Amanda’s affair and subsequent divorce was not easy for her. In her own words, “I found the fall from grace incredibly hard to deal with. I can’t bear not to be liked. Then I had an affair and overnight turned into this awful person. There are no hard feelings with Les. I wish him the best, but we’ve both moved on. I don’t believe women have affairs for no reason. Women don’t seek sex – we seek love and affirmation.”

Les, on the other hand, has shown a rare grace in handling the aftermath. Recently booted off Strictly Come Dancing, he spoke candidly about Amanda’s comments. “Amanda was in the papers recently, saying some nice things about me. That was very kind of her. Maybe with time she has been able to look back and see things differently.” He added, “We’re not in touch but I am happy that she’s happy.”

The pair hold no ill feelings for each other

Their story takes an unexpected turn as Les contemplates a hypothetical biopic, even suggesting Amanda could play herself. “It’s a chapter in my life that was huge, and I have no idea who to cast in that role.”

Les is now happily married for a third time.

Yet, amid the history, both have moved on with their lives. Les, now happily married to Claire Nicholson, even took a cheeky jab at Amanda’s glamorous social media posts from Paris, posting a picture from his less-than-luxurious dressing room.
