Scott Mitchell, the widower of the late Dame Barbara Windsor, has confirmed that he has entered into a new relationship. According to a report by The Sun, Scott has found love with Tanya Franks, a former member of the EastEnders cast known for her portrayal of Rainie Cross in the BBC soap.

In response to the news, Scott expressed his appreciation for the kind wishes he has received and stated that he is currently experiencing a positive and fulfilling period in his life with Tanya. Scott and Dame Barbara were married for a remarkable 20 years until her passing in 2020.

Prior to her death, Dame Barbara had been battling Alzheimer’s disease, which she openly discussed in 2018, using her platform to raise awareness about the condition. Throughout her final years, she and Scott actively campaigned together, with a fundraiser set up in her name managing to raise over £100,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK within a week.

Continuing their joint efforts, Scott, alongside some of Dame Barbara’s co-stars such as Natalie Cassidy and Adam Woodyatt, participated in the London Marathon as part of “Babs’ Army” to raise funds for the charity in 2019, 2021, and 2023.

Interestingly, Tanya Franks, who portrayed Rainie Cross in EastEnders, was also part of the “Babs’ Army” group. The Sun reports that it was during their involvement in this charity initiative that Tanya and Scott initially got to know each other.

Tanya Franks made her debut in Albert Square in 2007, intermittently appearing as Rainie Cross over the following decade before joining the soap full-time in 2018. However, Tanya has since left Walford after stepping down from the role last year.

In addition to her EastEnders stint, Tanya has notable on-screen credits in acclaimed shows such as the crime drama Broadchurch, the Michaela Coel comedy Chewing Gum, and the now-defunct Channel 5 soap Family Affairs.

As Scott Mitchell embarks on this new chapter of his life with Tanya Franks, the couple’s happiness is a testament to finding love and support after loss. Their journey serves as an inspiration to others navigating similar circumstances and highlights the power of forging meaningful connections in times of healing and renewal.
