Once known as the spirited schoolgirl, Hannah Martin, on the iconic soap opera Neighbours, Rebecca Ritters has since traded Ramsay Street for an illustrious career in journalism. But don’t think for a second that this talented actress-turned-news anchor has faded into obscurity – far from it! With a remarkable transformation and a whole new platform, she’s still making waves on TV screens.

Gone are the frizzy-haired days of her Neighbours debut. Today, the 39-year-old is virtually unrecognisable, sporting a polished and professional look that’s perfect for her role as a bilingual news anchor on German broadcaster Deutsche Welle. Her journey from acting to journalism has been nothing short of impressive.

Back in 1992, at the tender age of eight, Rebecca graced our screens as Hannah Martin, the charming daughter of Philip and Julie Martin on Neighbours. Her talent was evident, and she captured the hearts of fans for a glorious seven years. And just when we thought we’d seen the last of Hannah, she made a delightful cameo return in 2005 to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary.

But Rebecca didn’t stop at Neighbours – she embarked on a diverse journey that took her across continents and stages. In 2002, she toured with the prestigious British Shakespeare Company, playing Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and adding her touch to A Midsummer Night’s Dream as Peaseblossom, in mesmerizing open-air productions.

Her adventures didn’t end there. From the UK to the US, she studied acting at esteemed colleges and even had a full-time job as a receptionist at Warner Bros Records – talk about a dynamic career! Rebecca’s talents weren’t confined to acting; she left her mark on the Australian medical drama All Saints, portraying the skilled Nurse Rachel Simms.

But it was her passion for journalism that truly captured her heart. In 2011, she took a leap of faith and enrolled in undergraduate study in Politics and International Relations at the University of Melbourne. Equipped with knowledge and determination, she delved into the world of news and current affairs as a producer for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

In 2015, Rebecca embarked on a new chapter, joining Deutsche Welle in Berlin as a journalist. Her bilingual skills and insightful reporting have taken her to the heart of global events, including her coverage of the war in Ukraine.
