Funeral of Singer Sinead O’Connor in Ireland today as teary fans line the street to pay tribute

Fans of Sinead O’Connor gathered early this morning outside her home in Bray, Co Wicklow, to pay tribute to the iconic singer by singing her hit song “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

The emotional gathering was a heartfelt way for her fans to express their love and appreciation for her music and talent. Many clutched Irish flags and pictures of the singer as they paid their respect.

As the hearse made its way along the parade, a campervan played Sinead’s music, creating a poignant and fitting tribute to her.

The casket embellished with blue flowers, and as a sign of respect, attendees are casting red and yellow flowers onto the roof of the vehicle.

The funeral took place this morning at 10.30am with the prayer for Sinead led by Shaykh Dr Umar Al-Qadri, the Chief Imam at the Islamic Centre of Ireland. He expressed his gratitude and honour for participating in the occasion, celebrating her life and acknowledging her Muslim identity. The imam had met the star in 2018 and spoke warmly of his interaction with her.

President Michael D Higgins of Ireland also issued a statement announcing his attendance at the private funeral service for Sinead O’Connor. He highlighted her profound impact on the Irish people and praised her unique contribution to music and creativity. Higgins recognised her vulnerability and exceptional talent, which made her contribution to music phenomenal and heroic. He acknowledged that her expression in her art came from her heart, body, and life, and that her loss was deeply felt by all who admired her.

The tributes and expressions of grief from fans, religious leaders, and dignitaries are a testament to her lasting impact on the world.
